GBLA has engage the state government to issue the land titles to the vulnerable community of Wau municipality i.e IDPs/venerable/returnee’s women/elderly by helping to process and produce the land documents for those who have land but have no proper ownership documents.
The IDPs/venerable/returnee’s women/elderly were also very happy with the program that is supported by NPA and implemented by GBLA.
Over 20 IDPs, venerable, returnees, women and elderly benefited from the support in Wau.
During the engagement meeting, participants were showing interest in handling things to do with the initial or basic documents for the start of the process, a women representative described this activity as ‘a blessing support from NPA and GBLA because processing individual’s land for free is not a simple task, especially with the high prices of land and other related land conflicts. The majority of beneficiaries were women with lower income levels that cannot afford to complete the process of documents in term finance. The Director General of SMOPI WBGS has highlights cases of inequality, land disputes that occurred in most residential areas of Wau due to cultural denial for women rights to own land and the issue of double allotment which causes land conflict in some Blocks respectively.
